6:30-7:00 Introductions, networking, general questions, setting up individual blank websites for the training. You don't have to bring your laptop since Microsoft will make Surface Laptops available. We can provide hosting for blank student websites for study purposes or you can work on one of your own websites.
7:00-8:00 Hands On Training Topic: Joomla! Overrides Demystified

At one point or another in the building of your site, you may have encountered the need to change the appearance of a page (if not, you will).
From the simple change of style of a single element in a paragraph to the complete restructuring of a page, Joomla offers different mechanisms that can help you take control of any generated output in order to fulfill your design requirements.
Do you need to change the color of one or all article titles? Use CSS overrides.
Do you need to re-word a specific key? Use language overrides.
Do you need to modify the display of a module, layout or menu item? Use template overrides.
If you want to learn best practices in creating overrides, how to make sure they stay up-to-date, and/or you just need to pretty-up your site, come and join us to learn and practice in this free Joomla workshop. Users of all levels are welcome!
This is the first Joomla Users NYC Group meeting in a long time. The current co-leaders Olivier and Stewart both like to teach and it is our intention that this next meeting will be as much of a hands-on training session as possible. If you already know the material we invite you to assist other participants or it may be possible for some people to chat in one of Microsoft's other rooms.
